Time is flying by - and I can hardly believe it, but it’s my very LAST semester of college! WOAH. And right now there are more than enough exciting things to keep me busy until graduation, so where to start..
This past summer I was fortunate enough to be able to continue my internship with Brian Ulrich, a former professor of mine from SAIC, and an amazing photographer. Working with Brian has been an incredible opportunity, and I cannot even begin to describe how much I have learned during my time at the studio and on-location photo-shoots. And I even got to be involved with the preparations for a lot of major projects; including Brian’s solo exhibition of Copia (created over a ten year period, the work looks at American consumerism post 9/11 through the stages of retail, thrift, and dark stores) at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The exhibition coincides with the release of his new book Is This Place Great or What with the Aperture Foundation. And somehow amidst the mountains of homework I seem to be living underneath lately, I was able to make it to the opening in Cleveland (so exciting!). It was an incredible weekend full of art, and I feel so lucky to have been involved. The city also brought some new thoughts and inspiration for my own work, as I spent a fair amount of time exploring the city’s industrial valley with 4x5 (my latest addiction). But the exhibition runs through the 16th of January, so I highly recommend that you check out the show if you’re anywhere in the area.
Next up: the new website! Finally, I have something up and running again, though it’s still in that stage where I can’t decide on anything, so the plan is for it to evolve a long with the work. You can check it out, a long with some of my recent work at www.clairedemos.com. Look for new work to come (hopefully online within the next few months) which I am extremely excited about, as the images and ideas behind them continue to transform immensely (hooray for new work!). And I have started to explore a bit with the 4x5 - yes, it’s true I’ve been drawn back into the world of film, and to be honest… it’s fabulous, and I just may stay here for awhile :) But now in terms of things more rapidly approaching - the BFA show! Less than two weeks away, everything seems to be falling into place (a giant thanks to everyone who’s put up with me this past month, I appreciate your continued support immensely - seriously). And for anyone interested to attend, the details are as follows:
Opening Reception: October 14th, 6-8PM
October 15th - November 12th
Gallery hours: Tuesday - Saturday 11AM-6PM
I will be sharing a space during the exhibition with the very talented Mark McWilliams. You can check out his work at www.mark-e-mcwilliams.com before you come see us at the show :)
I’ve had the amazing opportunity to be working with Brian for the majority of this year - check out the studio visit at his new space in the West Loop… with such nice things to say about a certain intern :)
And check out Brian’s work at www.notifbutwhen.com!
Congrats to all my amazing friends on a great show!
